The role of a Sustainability Officer at HEMA Far East Ltd., Bangladesh Liaison Office, involves ensuring sustainable practices in the supply chain and leading environmental initiatives. You will be responsible for managing sustainable material certifications, verifying compliance with international standards, and contributing to the company’s sustainability goals through technical support and reporting.
Key Skills & Competencies:
• Sustainable Cotton Integrity: Understanding GOTS, Textile Exchange, BCI standards
• Technical Knowledge of amfori BEPI and ZDHC programs
• Compliance Management: Verifying TCs for certified materials like GOTS and Textile Exchange
• Environmental Data Analysis and Reporting: Preparing detailed reports on sustainability efforts
• Technical Support in Industrial Processes: Energy, water, and waste efficiency assessments
Experience to Highlight:
1. Prior experience in a sustainability or compliance role within the textile/apparel industry is essential
2. Strong background in NGO or INGO roles where environmental and social compliance are key areas
3. Local field-based experience in Bangladesh, particularly with HEMA’s buying offices, would be beneficial
4. Experience working with BCI Chain of Custody verification systems
Education & Certifications:
Present your B.Sc degree in Environmental Engineering from a reputable university first. Highlight relevant certifications such as GOTS auditor or ZDHC MRSL auditor.
Tools and Systems:
Be familiar with standard tools used in the industry, including GOTS, Textile Exchange, and BCI software for tracking compliance. Knowledge of ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) and amfori BEPI programs is critical.
Interview Preparation:
1. Research HEMA’s sustainability goals and initiatives
2. Prepare examples of your previous work in sustainable material management and environmental projects
3. Practice explaining your communication skills, especially in both English and Bengali
