PREPARING FOR THE POSITION
HEAD OF ACCOUNTS & FINANCE – AZIM GROUP (WOVEN DIVISION), CHITTAGONG



1. UNDERSTAND THE CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and drive long‑term financial strategy that aligns with the company’s export‑oriented garment business and its backward‑linkage products (buttons, cartons, poly bags).
• Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and multi‑unit financial models; conduct profitability, variance and cash‑flow analysis.
• Supervise the entire accounts and finance function – from daily ledger maintenance to the production of monthly and annual financial statements, balance sheets, cash‑flow statements and costing reports.
• Ensure strict compliance with IFRS, IAS and Bangladesh local accounting standards.
• Manage banking relationships, loan facilities, LC/ DC, buyer’s credit, and overall fund utilization to maintain healthy liquidity.
• Oversee tax, VAT, AIT, VDS filings and coordinate both internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with Bangladesh Bank, NBR, RJSC and other regulators.
• Implement internal controls, review product costing, overheads and identify cost‑reduction opportunities.
• Lead, mentor and evaluate a large finance team; conduct skill‑development programmes and performance reviews.
• Collaborate closely with Commercial, Supply Chain, Production, HR and Corporate departments to support CAPEX planning, expansion projects and export‑proceeds reconciliation.

2. MATCH YOUR PROFILE TO THE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field (BCom, BBA).
• Post‑graduate qualification (MCom, MBA) is highly desirable.
• Professional chartered qualification such as FCA or ACA adds strong advantage.

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum ten years of progressive experience in finance, with at least a senior leadership role.
• Proven track record in the garment industry or similar export‑oriented manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience handling multi‑business operations, large teams and complex financial structures.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Financial strategy, budgeting and forecasting.
• Comprehensive financial reporting and MIS preparation.
• Fund management, banking liaison, loan negotiations, LC and export‑finance handling.
• Tax, VAT and statutory compliance.
• Costing, cost control and internal‑control systems.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• High integrity, leadership presence and ability to perform under pressure.

PERSONAL CRITERIA
• Age 40 years or older.
• Male or female candidates accepted.

3. DOCUMENT PREPARATION
• Updated CV highlighting relevant finance leadership roles, specific achievements in budgeting, cost reduction, banking negotiations and audit management.
• Cover letter addressed to “The Director – Azim Group (Woven Division)”, summarizing why you are the right fit and referencing the key responsibilities listed above.
• Certified copies of academic qualifications (BCom/BBA, MCom/MBA, FCA/ACA if applicable).
• Professional certificates, any relevant training or workshops (IFRS, Tax, Cost Accounting).

• Be ready to discuss how you would develop a long‑term financial strategy for a multi‑product export business.
• Prepare examples of past budgeting cycles, forecasting techniques and variance analysis you have led.
• Refresh knowledge of IFRS, IAS and Bangladesh Accounting Standards; be prepared to explain how you ensured compliance in previous roles.
• Review loan and credit facilities typical for garment exporters – cash credit, term loans, LC, buyer’s credit – and be able to articulate negotiation tactics and fund‑optimisation methods.

C. BEHAVIORAL QUESTIONS
• “Describe a time when you had to lead a large finance team through a major system change.”
• “How have you handled a situation where audit findings exposed significant control weaknesses?”
• “Give an example of a cost‑reduction initiative that delivered measurable savings without compromising quality.”
• “Explain how you balance short‑term liquidity needs with long‑term investment decisions.”

D. CASE STUDY PREPARATION (if requested)
• Expect a scenario involving budgeting for a new export line, evaluating a loan proposal or analysing a variance in product costing.
• Structure your response: define the problem, outline data needed, present analysis steps, recommend actions and discuss risk mitigation.

E. QUESTIONS TO ASK THE INTERVIEWER
• What are the primary financial challenges the Woven Division is facing this fiscal year?
• How does the finance function currently interact with commercial and production teams?
• What are the expectations for the Head of Accounts & Finance in the first 90 days?
• Could you describe the company’s approach to technology adoption in finance (ERP, BI tools, etc.)?

6. PERSONAL PRESENTATION
• Dress in formal business attire appropriate for senior‑level executive positions.

• Bring printed copies of your CV, cover letter and certificates, as well as a notebook for taking notes.
